Hurin could smell the violence. It was strong around the inn where the men had been staying and the trail was weaker around the places they had visited. It was stronger again around the tailor. Hurin entered the shop in order to query the tailor. The man inititially continued working on the garment in his hands, but as Hurin asked about some suspicious customers, the tailor stopped working. With a grunt, the tailor said "Suspicious? More than suspicious. Darkfriends, says I. Tried to sell me a shipment of wolf pelts. What good Borderlands man would kill a wolf unless it was going for your throat?"
Who indeed? Hurin left the shop and prowled the city with a new sense of urgency. The scent came back to him near the Dog Gate. Had they boarded the coach? Hurin circled the area outside the gate until he was on a forrested ridge and found that the trail was going south, not west as the coach would have taken them. Hurin sped towards the city to alert Lord Agelmar about the presence of the unwanted visitors.
